Call for Papers
Research Center for Islamic Economics (IKAM) in collaboration with Scientific Studies Association (ILEM), Turkish Entrepreneurship and Business Ethics Association (IGIAD) and Istanbul Commerce University will organize its 9th Islamic Economics Workshop from 17 to 19 Septembert, 2021 under the theme “Economic Growth and Development in Low Income Countries”.
Developing countries in general and most of Muslim countries in particular, the low income ones, face a two-pronged challenge of growth and development, against which their performance so far has not been very promising. Muslim countries are frequently marred with economic afflictions including sluggish growth, low development and unending spirals of poverty. To make the matters worse, the capital and human (capital) accumulation levels as well as research, development and innovation in these countries have plummeted to near zero levels. This situation warrants a long-term and permanent solution, hence, looking at the pertinence of this topic and the critical need to devise a panacea to these two-pronged problems of growth and development, IKAM once again has decided to blaze the trial. With an aim to look into the aforementioned problems and propose viable solutions in the context of Islamic economics, in year 2021, under patronage of IKAM, experienced academia from the economics discipline would gather and offer different perspectives, critically evaluate the existing works and propose suggestions to set a common future course of action. Against this backdrop, topics that will be covered in the upcoming workshop will be related to (but are not restricted to) the following themes:
1. Capital accumulation in Muslim countries
2. Muslim countries amidst the enigma of growth and development
3. Private sector development in low income countries
4. Poverty and its eradication
5. Growth, inequalities and development
6. Environment and development
7. Markets and market failures
8. Social services and human capital
9. Research and innovation in the Muslim world
10. Economic growth: social and moral planes
Submission of Papers
Abstracts are expected be sent to the workshop by January 10, 2021 at the most. The final acceptance for participation in the workshop will be decided through full texts. Articles that are sent to the workshop should be authentic, not published or presented in any other program or under consideration for publication.
Travel and Accommodation
The workshop is envisioned as a meeting of minds among thinkers, scholars and practitioners in a limited number. Authors of the accepted papers will be covered for round-trip economy class air ticket and hotel accommodation during the workshop. Accommodation and travel expenses of the participants will be met by IKAM.
Publication
The papers presented at the workshop will be reviewed and considered for publication in an edited book that will be published by Iktisat Yayınları following the conference. The English version of the book is published following workshop each year in collaboration with UK based famous publishing house, Routledge.
