THE GREEN PARK HOTEL, ISTANBUL
The Islamic world has endeavored to bring Islamic civilization to a strong position in the face of capitalist Western civilization, escaping from the economic and political stagnation that it has been in for the last few centuries. Muslims have gained strength both politically and economically in the last quarter of a century and have started to have a say in the international arena. The social and economic depression within the West drew the attention of the Islamic World towards search for a new system.
However, the developments that have taken place lead the sectoral researches that are stuck in the financial sector in search of a sophisticated system. There is a shift towards an effort to operate the interest banking system more efficiently, in the light of an Islamic economic system. The issue of how economic life, which affects every area of life, and which should be shaped within the frame of Islamic rules is gradually being forgotten. Especially after 1980, depending on global economic and political changes, the quest for this alternative system has evolved into an attempt to exist within the existing system. Seeking to create an economic system has opened up space for Muslims within the system, especially with the financial dimension and with the introduction of interest-free banking services.
The workshop titled "Islamic Economy Workshop I: Basic Concepts and Ideas" aimed at evaluating the latest situation in Islamic economic researches and discussing what kind of future studies should be done in order to get a complete alternative system.
