ISTANBUL SEHIR UNIVERSITY

At the workshop held on March 2-3, 2013 in Istanbul on "Basic Concepts and Ideas", discussions were held on the evaluation of the studies on Islamic economics so far and how the field of "Islamic Economy" should ideally be framed. In this workshop, it was stated that the "Islamic Economy" should also work in micro and macro economics and theories should be produced in order to produce a global economic system.

In this context, the year 2014 workshop was organized around the concept of ‘market’, a basic and symbolic concept of the current economic system. Thus, it aimed to discuss the market concept or institution which is the cornerstone of the capitalist economic system from the Islamic economic perspective. Some of the topics discussed in the workshop are listed below.

1. Islamic economy and free market

2. Socialist debates in Islamic economics

3. Prosperity, distribution and justice

4. How should the markets be classified in terms of Islamic economics?
