Who we are

An umbrella organisation bridging academia and the business world

İLKE Foundation for Science, Culture and Education is an umbrella organisation founded in 2010 to work, together with its institutions, in the fields of business ethics and entrepreneurship, academic research and non-formal religious education, and to carry out pioneering work that develops a strategic outlook on these subjects. Within this framework, it serves as a hub that produces knowledge, policy and strategy in the fields of the institutions under the İLKE umbrella, represents them in public and develops institutional relations.

İLKE aims both to close the gap between academia and the business world and to assess, from the perspective of Islamic values, the modern economic structure shaped by the capitalist economic system, and carries out a range of activities to build the theoretical framework of a new paradigm. To take its long-standing work on Islamic economics onto a more effective footing and to meet the growing demand and need in the field, it established the Research Center for Islamic Economics (IKAM). Founded by İLKE with the institutional support of İLEM and İGİAD, the center carries out research, publications, training, conferences and workshops.

Why Islamic economics

Through the system and practices it proposes, Islamic economics has the potential to bring about a fairer economic life and distribution.

In our country and around the world, research on Islamic economics remains limited and needs to diversify. While every antithesis to the capitalist system is gradually being refuted, no alternative capable of remedying this unjust system has yet been developed. The endeavour and claim of Islamic economics stem from faith, and this teaching places responsibilities on Muslims for what they do and say. In this context, there is a need for capable researchers to turn to this field, building on past scholarship and concentrating on new work.

2013since

Islamic Economics Workshop

Organised by IKAM since 2013, the Islamic Economics Workshop set out with this idea and has made valuable contributions to the body of knowledge. Producing tangible outputs and covering theoretical and applied economics rather than current financial topics, the workshop has attracted wide interest. Building on this experience, IKAM aims to foster new work and to increase the production of knowledge in different fields.

Our aim

Building Islamic economic thought as a coherent whole

The Research Center for Islamic Economics (IKAM) was established to help Islamic economics research be carried out to a higher standard. IKAM aims to encourage the production of sound ideas and theories for building “Islamic economics” as a coherent whole, and to lay the groundwork for new studies.

A just alternative

A system that is just, encourages lawful earning and respects people and their labour, as opposed to the prevailing system that has grown hand in hand with capitalism.

Theory and practice together

Addressing Islamic economics on both theoretical and practical grounds through long-term, in-depth and holistic work.

National and international impact

Filling an important gap in the field on national and international platforms with concrete proposals.

Addressing Islamic economics on both theoretical and practical grounds, the center aims to create a structure that people working in the field can benefit from, examining the subjects of Islamic economics in their different dimensions, extending them across various platforms and enriching them through a range of activities.
