Research Center for Islamic Economics (IKAM) in collaboration with Scientific Studies Association (ILEM) and, Turkish Entrepreneurship and Business Ethics Association (IGIAD) is organizing 6th Islamic Economics Workshop, which will be hosted by Istanbul University from 6 to 8 April, 2018. The theme of this year’s workshop will be “Methodology of Islamic Economics.” In the opening session of the workshop on Friday April 6, 2018, Islamics Economics Awards will also be presented following the inaugural session.

Islamic Economics has faced many challenges since its inception among which what has prominently been mentioned in various debates since its early days is the problem of choosing appropriate methodology for Islamic Economics. The contradiction of the assumptions and methodology of the mainstream economics with the classical methodology of Islamic sciences in various forms has been at the heart of the discussions of methodology. Overcoming this contradiction and creating a consistent, applicable, and functioning methodology is one of the most important existential challenges for Islamic economics today. For this, a methodology using both Muslim heritage of science and techniques used by contemporary economics needs to be developed.

The Islamic Economics Workshop aims to discuss all aspects of the methodology in a detailed way. In the workshop, papers related to topics including basic assumptions of Islamic economic approach, Philosophical foundations of Islamic economic methodology, approaches to economics in Islamic thought, the application of the fiqh way and traditional economic methodology to the modern world, The holistic use of fiqh and economics in Islamic economics, Current methodology debates in Islamic economics and new ideas, Theory-practice and policy relation in Islamic economics will be presented.

This year, famous voices from the field of Islamic Economics both from Turkey and abroad, including Monzer Kahf, Asad Zaman, Sabri Orman, Masudul Alam Choudhury, Akram Khan, Hakan Saribas, Seif Eldin Ibrahim, Valentino Cattelan and Necmettin Kizilkaya will present their works.

The Islamic Economics Workshop will open with an inaugural panel. The opening session will start at 18:00 hours on Friday April 6, 2018 and will be moderated by Necmettin Kizilkaya. Arif Ersoy, Asad Zaman, Masudul Alam Choudhuury, Monzer Kahf and Temel Hazıroğlu will participate as discussants in the panel. Following the opening session, Islamic Economics Awards will be presented.

Islamic Economics awards are given in three fields to improve contributions made to Islamic economics and to encourage new works. Hence, the awards namely Islamic Economics Research Award, The Islamic Economy Implementation Award and The Islamic Economics Contribution Award will be given to deserving individuals and institutions for their commendable work in the field of Islamic Economics.
On 7th and 8th April, 2018 the academicians from Turkey and abroad will present papers addressing the issue of methodology and various other aspects of Islamic economics.

The inaugural session will be held at the IU Congress Center and the second and third day sessions will take place at the Istanbul University Rectorate Blue Hall.
